There will be a memorial service for Times Community Media publisher Arthur W. "Nick" Arundel at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 11, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Upperville, Va.  The Arundel family will receive friends after the service at Merry Oak Farm in The Plains.

Virginia Wineries Jump from 120 in 2005 to Nearly 180 Today; Industry Employees 3,000 People, Contributes $350 Million Annually To Virginia Economy

Fauquier County’s effort to commemorate the 150^th Anniversary of the American Civil War is in full swing.  This state-wide commemoration, which will be held 2011 – 2015, will involve jurisdictions throughout the Commonwealth working to expand the understanding, education, and preservation of Virginia’s history, and the history of the American Civil War.

During his travels across Virginia over the August recess, the Senator heard from many small business owners who were concerned about a new requirement that they file 1099 tax forms for all purchases from vendors totaling more than $600 annually.

ALEXANDRIA – Governor Bob McDonnell visited two homeless shelters today operated by New Hope Housing, an award-winning homeless services provider in Fairfax County. The Governor toured Mondloch House I, which serves homeless adults, and Mondloch House II which assists homeless families. Pam Michell, executive director of New Hope Housing, and board members briefed the Governor on their work to assist persons experiencing homelessness in moving to permanent housing.

Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) results, released by the state Aug. 12 for science, history, writing, reading, and mathematics, indicate that Fauquier County Public Schools’ student achievement increased among all student groups.  

Wills for Heroes is a program jointly sponsored in Virginia by the VSB Young Lawyers Conference (YLC) and the VBA Young Lawyers Division (YLD) in conjunction with the Arlington County Bar Association, to provide wills, powers of attorney and medical directives to local emergency personnel. Wills for Heroes was developed by the ABA's Young Lawyers' Division in response to the events of September 11th and has been successfully implemented elsewhere in many Virginia localities, including Hanover County, Henrico County, Loudoun County, Williamsburg, Cumberland, Danville, Roanoke and Norfolk. The documents are prepared by volunteer attorneys using the "HotDocs" document assembly program. All equipment needed to prepare the documents, including printers and laptop computers, is provided through the YLC.

If so, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) could have the solution to your group’s need with applications for funding available through Operation Round Up (ORU) beginning August 1.
