Glenn Youngkin signed legislation allowing chambers to form consortiums and sell health care plans that cover small businesses with two to 50 employees. • Regional Entrepreneurship Initiative (REI)
  • We are serving as a consultant by partnering with the Community Investment Collaborative to provide advice, introductions, and feedback related to the outreach and engagement to stakeholders for the Regional Entrepreneurship Initiative project, a grant funded by the GO Virginia program mission is to strengthen our community and contribute to economic development by fueling the success of under-resourced entrepreneurs through education, mentoring, financing, and networking. We are entering into a Grant Sub Agreement for compensation for the amount of allowable, eligible costs associated with the completion of the scope of the work described in the agreement, but not to exceed a total of $2,500. • The Chamber’s royalty agreement is for 25% of sales greater than $30,000 or 20% of sales less than $30,000. Royalties are paid by check up to 90 days after the publication is delivered. (The grace period is required to collect any outstanding ad invoices.) Sales for this first directory were $25,135. Estimated revenue - $5,027

      • It has been 120 days since I was first made aware of conversations regarding my performance. Between that time and August 1st, my only understanding of the specific concerns that precipitated consecutive Executive Sessions was the resignation of Connie Corwin who I had hired in February.

        I feel there is no value in rehashing the events and emotions since then for numerous reasons including bandwidth and more so ROI.

        Instead, I do believe strongly that closure is an important objective for the following reasons. Although there was a conversation on August 1^st with select members of the board, I work for the entire board and have felt for the last 120 days a sense of tension and friction within the group as a whole as well individual members and unless addressed, will only further solidify itself and manifest into a relationship that may become untenable for everyone. In my opinion nothing positive can come from that.

        For six weeks I wondered and worried each day if it would be my last as your president. The continued secrecy and ambiguous environment was and frankly remains a distraction to both my professional and personal life. This is something that I cannot avoid addressing internally for if I do, I feel confident that not only will my performance continue to be adversely affected but my desire to continue will come into question. Other than the August 1^st meeting, I have not had the opportunity to speak with anyone to drill down to what the actual issues are which makes it difficult if not impossible to fix. I have accepted that changes in my tone, rhetoric and actions need to be made to be more in line with the assumed expectations of others but have yet to be provided with any indication of the effect on my relationship with the board.

        I am not perfect, none of us are but if the situation isn’t discussed openly, collectively, and constructively with a goal of reaching resolution, I fear that the Chamber will suffer.

        The last 120 days have not been all bad as it has forced me to do some self-reflection and reach an understanding within myself that I can do better in those areas that I can self-identify however I would embrace hearing from the entire board, additional thoughts, suggestions and even mandates that are all targeting the same objective.

        I can’t say I will agree to all of them but without at least a constructive conversation, we will remain where we are, unable to move forward and give ourselves and most importantly the businesses we serve the opportunity to benefit from what began as an unfortunate situation.
